Academic regulations outline the core structure of education at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (MUI). Programs follow a unified credit system where the value of each course is measured in credit units, and enrollment prerequisites must be strictly observed.
A revised edition of the Education Regulations is released each academic year and applies to all enrolled students. You can review the specific regulations for your program here.
Academic Year Structure
Each academic year consists of two main semesters (each spanning 17 weeks) and an optional summer semester lasting 6 weeks.
Students are required to complete course selection and registration strictly according to the official academic calendar published by the university.
Attendance Policy
Class attendance is mandatory for all sessions. Unauthorized absences exceeding permitted limits result in a score of zero:
Absence in Exams
Absence from class sessions or exams within the authorized limit is permissible only if justified by valid documentation and approved by the course instructor and faculty administration. Unexcused absences are handled directly by the instructor and the faculty council.
Add, Drop, and Course Modification
During the first two weeks, students may add up to two courses, drop, or swap them within allowed unit limits. Absences during these two weeks are strictly counted.
In emergencies, a student may drop a single theoretical course up to the 5th week with department approval, provided absence does not exceed 4/17 and load remains $\ge 12$ units.
Evaluation & Grading Criteria
Grades range from 0 to 20. The minimum passing grade is 10 for theoretical and practical courses, and 12 for apprenticeships. Failed compulsory courses must be repeated at the earliest opportunity, and all grades remain on the permanent record affecting cumulative GPA.
Conditional Academic Standing
A student's semester GPA must not fall below 12. If a semester GPA drops below 12, registration for the subsequent semester will be placed on conditional status.
